Did someone say sweater weather?

As our favourite season is finally upon us and we eagerly prepare to snuggle up with some Netflix, pumpkin spice and everything nice, our bodies may be feeling like it’s time to pack away our fitness goals next to our summer dresses and flip flops. And while it’s natural to see motivation go down early with the sun, a change in season can present great opportunity to reset goals and start fresh. And really, what’s fresher than that first taste of crisp fall air?

So, before shifting into full hibernation mode, check out some of these fall fitness trends that will leave you feeling refreshed, rejuvenated, and ready for your next guilt-free spiced latte.

TRAIL RUNNING/HIKING/CYCLING

With hot and humid behind us, there’s never been a more comfortable time to exercise outside. Many local running and cycling groups kick start this time of year and let’s be honest, after 18 months of lockdown, a little fresh air will do our body and mind some good.

Outdoor exercise groups are an awesome way to make exercise competitive and fun, and will hold you accountable along the way. If you prefer something solo, the number of beautiful trails Canada has to offer are endless. Whether you choose to run, hike, cycle or walk, just strap on your runners, get out there and enjoy the amazing view. Satisfaction 100% guaranteed.

RAKING LEAVES

While raking leaves may seem more like an Instagram-worthy fall activity (or, let’s be honest, a chore) it’s actually an incredibly beneficial exercise for many reasons. In addition to soaking up some vitamin D (something you want to pay added attention to during a time when hours of sunlight are more limited) raking leaves helps build upper-body, back and core strength. Be sure to focus on your posture, keep a tight core, protect your hands and find the biggest pile to jump in.

NETFLIX AND LIFT

Fall is the epitome of cozy and as such, a time we tend to see our episode binging increase dramatically. Haven’t finished Squid Game yet? No problem. Get your Netflix and lift on! There are a ton of equipment-free exercises you can do right from the comfort of your own home without having to miss an episode. Squats, push-ups, planks, sit-ups, lunges, mountain climbers, burpees… the list is a long one. Use the episode timer as your guide and get moving!

All in all, fall is not the time to shelf your motivation. There’s never been a more beautiful, delicious or soothing reason to embrace your best fall self. New season? New me. You got this!
